January Photo A Day

So today I finished the January Photo A Day Challenge, run by the very clever Chantelle from Fat Mum Slim.  I took all of my pics using my good old iPhone and the Instagram app.  Here are some of my faves from the past 31 days:

breakfast:

 your letterbox:

 something you wore:

 something that makes you smile:
my kids and the bond they share

 daily routine:
coffee.  every. single. morning.

 childhood

where you sleep

 close up

in your bag

 something you bought

 reflection

something old:
Limoges trinket box that my Aunty gave my mum and mum gave me

 colour:
artwork by my son when he was 8

light

 in your fridge:
beer, and plenty of it!

 And Day 31, You:
in the car. again.
Mum's Taxi at your service

But wait...there's more!
Fat Mum Slim has put together another challenge for February,
which I'm totally going to do.  If you'd like to join in too, here's the Feb Challenge:

photo collage

Things have been a little quiet around here on the party front.  We were meant to have an Australia Day Family Fun Day yesterday, but the wet weather saw that being cancelled.  So instead, I gathered up all the photos I had lying around and put this together:

I got the idea from pinterest.  It was so easy to do, only took me about 15 minutes to put together and the best bit?...
It's filled up a blank wall that's been annoying me for months and cost me nothing to do so!!

Australia Day

Australia Day is next week.  Thursday 26 January to be exact.  It's a day where we aussies do something totally Australian like head to the beach or have a bbq with family and friends or drink lots of beer and tell rude, sexist jokes...all without any of us really knowing what Australia Day actually means (FYI, it's to commemorate the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 - thanks google for filling me in)

So this year we have decided to celebrate Australia Day by inviting a few friends over and have a good old fashioned BBQ...which of course, I have managed to turn into something I like to call

The Great Australia Day Family Fun Day.

I've been to the shops and stocked up on cheap, tacky Australian themed party goods....

That haul came to the grand total of 20 bucks.
Gotta love the local Dollars and Sense store for cheap party goods!

I've bought thongs for the Thong Throwing contest...

$2.99 at Crazy Clarks.

I've organised for our lovely friends L&K to bring the cane toads.
Yes, we'll be having a cane toad throwing competition...eeewww

And I've got the pies all sorted for the pie eating comp....

And now, I'm working on putting together an Aussie themed dessert & drinks bar. While some may think plastic cups are tres tacky, I think they make perfect sense when little kids are around (nobody wants their day ruined by little feet stepping on broken glass) so here's my crafty way of making a boring plastic cup look a bit more Australian...

stickers + plastic cup =

Now all I need to do is find an Australia Day outfit to wear and I'll be good to go!

How about you?
What are you up to this Australia Day?

Cute As Could Be Coles Trolley

So today I hit the shops, with the kids in tow, to do the groceries.  I know.  The glamour of it all.  Anyway, when we hit our local Coles look what we found....

A cute as could be trolley!
Sophie just loved pushing it around and kept saying
"I'm a Mini Mummy today" to anyone that would listen.

She did have to make a quick stop to check her ipod.
As you do.  When you're 7.

And then we were on our way...

Cute right?!

We did have to sign in at the Customer Service Desk to get access to the trolley but when we returned it, the lovely lady behind the desk offered the kids a piece of fruit each. They happily took a banana each and ate it on their way out.  Thanks Coles, for a great concept.  It almost made shopping with two kids fun!

This wasn't a sponsored post.
But it totally should be.
If anyone out there knows a bigwig at Coles,
feel free to tell their people to get in touch with my people.

Robot Party

This week's featured party comes from Nina from Nina's Cupcakery.  She put together this awesome robot themed party for her little boy and made the cake and all the other baked goods herself.  I'm loving the colour scheme, the glittery cake pops and of course, the amazing rocket cake!

If you would like your party to be featured,

GoMA, South Bank

Yesterday the kids and I headed into South Bank.

A beautiful part of the world, right here in Brisbane, Australia.  There's lots to see and do there, but this visit had a purpose.  Bailey was booked into a cartoon workshop at the State Library (thanks to my lovely friend J for organising it) so after we dropped him off there, Sophie and I wandered around GoMA (Gallery of Modern Art) for a couple of hours.  Here's what we saw...

This is the Obliteration Room.
It was white.  And now look at it.
  Amazing!!

When you enter the room, you are given a sheet of stickers.
Those stickers can be put anywhere you like!
Sophie loved it....

And this exhibit was just beautiful.
Everything's made using icing sugar....

And when you've looked at everything,
you get to sit at a iMac and make your own icing sugar creation.
And then email it to yourself.
So you can keep it forever.
Brilliant.

It was a great day out!
If you live in Brisbane, I'd highly recommend you go see it...
especially if you have kids.
They'll love it.  Promise.

Oh and Bailey (aged 10) loved the cartoon workshop.
Two hours of cartoon/caricature tips and tricks from a professional cartoonist =
$28 well spent!
