The Kit Kat Cake

What a day!  I still can't believe that Sophie's little birthday party made it onto the blog of Amy Atlas Events.  I've been a long time admirer of Amy's work and never in a million years thought my little old parties would be good enough to be featured on her incredible blog.  For those of you who missed it, you can find the feature right here

And so it seems that everyone loves a Kit Kat Cake.  Who knew?!  I found the idea ages ago right here and have been waiting to come up with an excuse to have a go at making one myself.  It honestly is so easy to make...if I can do it, anyone can!  Here's how it's done....

Simply bake two cakes.  I used a red velvet packet mix and a buttercake packet mix (shock, horror!  I actually never make my children's birthday cakes from scratch because most kids never even eat the cake and a packet mix is MUCH easier when you know the cake won't even get eaten!)

Once both cakes were baked and cooled, I put the red velvet cake on the cake stand, whacked some icing (frosting) on the top of it and stuck the butter cake onto the icing.  Then I stuck the Kit Kat bars onto the side of the cake.  I did this by smearing a little bit of icing onto the Kit Kat and then sticking it onto the side of the cake.  I used 10 Kit Kat bars in total.

Then I tied a red bow around the cake, to hold all of the Kit Kats in place.
Once this was secure, I emptied one large packet of m&m's onto the top of the cake and it was done!!

And here's the mess I created in the process!....

And here are some random cake shots for your viewing pleasure:

Thanks so much to Lisa from Amy Atlas Events for the feature and to all the lovely people out there who follow my K&Co facebook page and have shared the link to the party today.
You are all wonderful and have made my day
xoxo
